ABOUT US
Who We Are

MyPhillyGolf.com exists to provide golfers throughout the Philadelphia area and Delaware Valley with information through which they can enhance their enjoyment of the game and interact with others who share their golf passions.

It is being launched in cooperation with the Golf Association of Philadelphia; its founders are two media veterans, Joe Logan and Craig Ammerman, who have each worked more than 25 years in this region and who each have deep roots in the game.

Joe Logan spent 35 years as a newspaper reporter and columnist, the last 13 as golf writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

He covered the PGA, Champions and LPGA tours, serious amateur golf and the local golf scene. He is the author of "Playing a Round," a collection of 81 area golf course reviews that first appeared in the Inquirer.

Logan has also written for Golf magazine, Golf World, Golfweek, Golf.com and other golf websites and publications. He has appeared on the Golf Channel's Grey Goose's 19th Hole and Viewers Forum, as well as in several of the network's Top 10 programs and documentaries, including Tiger vs. Jack. He is a frequent guest on Making the Turn, on XM Radio's PGA Tour Network Channel. He is a member in good standing of the Golf Writers Association of America, from which he has received several awards.

A native of North Carolina, Logan holds a degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina. Before the Inquirer, he worked for newspapers in Minneapolis, Jackson, Miss., and Columbia, S.C.

He also played small college golf for a time, although the prospects are dim that he will ever break 80 again.

Craig Ammerman is past president of the Golf Association of Philadelphia (1999-2002) and former member of the Executive Committee of the U.S. Golf Association (2002-2007). An avid golfer himself, Ammerman has worked as a rules official at each of the four major championships -- 15 in all – including the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage, and at more than 100 other national, regional and local events. He also chaired the USGA's Communications Committee from 2002-2007 and served as chairman of its Amateur Public Links Championship.

Professionally, Ammerman is chairman of Staywell Custom Communications, a health industry communications company, and executive vice president of its parent company, Stay Well. He was co-founder and president of Health Ink Communications for 20 years, before its sale.

Earlier in his career, Ammerman, a native of Kentucky, spent 22 years in the news business, including stints as chief of the New York City bureau of the Associated Press, managing editor of the New York Post and executive editor of the Philadelphia Bulletin.

Ammerman is a member of the board of trustees and green chairman of Riverton Country Club, and continues to invest time in the game. He's more of an optimist than his partner, Logan, and begins every round believing he will break 80. This requires being able to accept the disappointment that occurs at whatever point during the round that he passes 80.

The Golf Association of Philadelphia will direct any visitor to MyPhillyGolf.com who seeks a handicap to places where one can be obtained. It also will make its content available to this site and otherwise support the golfers who visit it.
