USGA, R&A bans anchoring, beginning 2016. The U.S. Golf Association and The R&A, golfs governing bodies, today announced the adoption of Rule 14-1b of the Rules of Golf that prohibits anchoring the club in making a stroke. The new Rule will take effect on January 1, 2016, in accordance with the regular four-year cycle for changes to the Rules of Golf.
Rule 14-1b, which was proposed on Nov. 28, 2012, has now been given final approval by the USGA and The R&A following an extensive review by both organizations. The decision to adopt the new Rule came after a comprehensive process in which comments and suggestions from across the golf community were collected and thoroughly considered. |

In the early years, the Crick was so popular that players often had to wait hours before teeing off. USGAs Mike Davis says Open at Merion will lose money. In a Q & A with USGA executive director Mike Davis, Golf magazine has several questions on Merion as host of next months U.S. Open
Is it true youll lose money on this Open?
We find that when we go to a big venue like Bethpage or Pinehurst, they make millions and millions of dollars more... And Im excluding the television rights fee, because with that it doesnt matter if its a big or a small site.
But when you go to an ultra-small site like Merion, its true, we wont make money -- in fact, well lose some money. But we look at it from a standpoint of a five-year period, and were very comfortable with where we are. |

How does Arnold Palmer order an Arnold Palmer?. It has to be a bit awkward, right? Does he tell the waitress, "Ill have a me?"
Does he just expect that shell know, because of who he is, wonders columnist Steve Politi. That could lead to an awkward moment if, for a change of pace, hed like a Dr. Pepper.
Really, few people in history have this problem. Sam Adams, the patriot, was long dead when Sam Adams, the beer, hit the market in 1985. No one is sure if Harvey Wallbanger was an actual bar patron -- a Manhattan beach surfer, according to Wikipedia -- or just a legend. |

Theyre elevator operatorsthey know every inch of their route, but is that really so noteworthy? Theyre the guys who stand in the bathrooms of fancy restaurants, turning on a faucet, proffering a hand towel, and waiting for a tip. |
